now it's your turn
to look after someone special
When I picked up Tales of Xillia 2, Ludger had a lot to live up to as the starring protagonist for the sequel. I loved every one of the original cast so much that, even with a premise of getting to explore more of the world of Elympios and their newfound co-existence with Rieze Maxia tangled up with a bunch of parallel fractured dimension nonsense that was right up my alley (what if this one event never happened? What if someone had lived when they shouldn't have? FFXIII-2 I missed you) I didn't know how Ludger was going to convince me. But he really, truly did.
And he doesn't even speak! He's a silent protagonist! He's just a guy who went off to his first day of work and ended up drowning in medical debt he now has to pay off and somehow fate has much bigger plans for him but he still has to pay off that debt at regular increments.
But in some ways, Ludger not speaking was to his benefit. Everything he proved to me was through his actions alone. He's dauntless, determined, and values his family above everything else in every reality. [Ludger / Tales of Xillia]
hymn of proof.
